Students in first, second, third, and fourth grade should participate in these March activities. Each lab comes with a different version of the challenge sheets. Three STEM Christmas Engineering Challenges are as follows: Package parachutes Slippery Slopes Marshmallow Launcher. Three exciting and inexpensive STEM activities will satisfy both students and teachers in this set of three. Students will gain a better understanding of Newton’s second law of motion during this activity. To launch cotton balls and marshmallows, students will build a launcher to learn about force, mass, and acceleration. Students will watch educational videos, go through slides with vocabulary words and definitions, complete lab questions, and then participate in a STEAM Snowball Launcher activity to cap off the day. Students can participate in this fun, interactive activity in the fifth grade Science unit on motion. Students will be introduced to the concept of mass and force by dipping pumpkin candy and miny marshmallows into the solution. Students can create a marshmallow launcher, draw the final product, and predict how long it will take to travel by using this method. The only thing you’ll need is a one-page worksheet about force and motion. Students can use this activity to create marshmallow launchers and test them by measuring the force’s distance and speed with the objects. By using the distance measurement and recording the distance, you can figure out how far each launch has traveled. By launching three different-sized marshmallows into space, you can understand Newton’s second law of motion (Force = Mass = Acceleration). Students will be challenged to complete a science experiment titled The Great Marshmallow Launcher Challenge that seeks to determine their creativity and ability to observe and react to force. It works by using air pressure to launch a marshmallow. Marshmallow Launcher Science ProjectĪ marshmallow launcher is a science project that is typically made from a PVC pipe. If you tie off the plastic spoon with a string, it will have a little more power. With painter’s tape, you can mark a target on a wall and then aim at it. Just pull back on the 2 sticks that are crossed on top of the marshmallow, and launch it away! How Do You Make A Marshmallow Catapult Step By Step? Use 2 more rubber bands to secure the sticks together. Then, take 2 more popsicle sticks and lay them on top of the marshmallow, so that they form a cross. Next, take your marshmallow and place it in the middle of the rectangle. Use 2 rubber bands to secure the sticks together at the corners. Then, take 2 more popsicle sticks and lay them perpendicular to the first 4 sticks, so that they form a rectangle.
